Specially designed light trees for Holmlia Torg in Oslo.
As part of the work to upgrade the bus and train stations in the Holmlia district, the City of Oslo is building a public square, Holmlia Torg. The main ideas behind Holmlia Torg are artistic decorations, distinctiveness and identity. The purpose of the square is to create a public space that combines the functional with the artistic. The square features, among other things, seating and areas to relax, an outdoor stage and a market place.
In addition to the outdoor stage and a distinctive walking surface, the square boasts six massive light trees. The light trees are 9 metres tall and have two and three treetops respectively. Each treetop consists of four to five leaves, made from perforated aluminium plates. The light trees’ treetops will be lit from below by three spotlights. These spotlights can light up in different colours, bathing the treetops with a unique light effect. There will also be three spotlights in each light tree to provide lighting in the square itself.
The project, which was initiated by Henning Holmøy at our Norwegian distributor Stolper A/S, is proof of Alfred Priess’ strengths and ability to create unique customised solutions in different materials. In this case the light trees are made of steel and aluminium.
